Information on making a claim related to the power outage of September 6, 2018

Many people who lost electrical power on September 6, 2018, have asked the city whether they can make a claim for any food that spoiled.

According to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, during a power outage a full freezer will keep food frozen for about 48 hours. A freezer that is half full will keep food frozen for about 24 hours. An unopened refrigerator will keep food cold for about 4 hours.

In the event that you wish to make a claim, you may do so via the Groupe Ostiguy & Gendron, the insurance company of the contractor Aquaréhab. Please indicate in your letter to them the date of the incident, how long the power outage lasted, and the amount you are claiming in spoiled foods. Be sure to include your address and phone number so they can respond.
