Lifeguard (White Collar)

PRINCIPAL FUNCTION

The work consists of monitoring swimmers and ensuring that they observe the regulations of the pools to prevent accidents and to maintain discipline; helping swimmers in difficulty and providing first aid in case of an accident.

DETAILS OF POSITION

  1. Monitor swimmers in the pool to prevent accidents.
  2. Enforce existing regulations for the users of the pools and ensure discipline and good order.
  3. Help swimmers in difficulty and provide first aid.
  4. Receive, classify and distribute materials and various items used in pool maintenance.
  5. Participate in the seasonal and periodic cleaning of the premises.
  6. Compile periodic statements on the attendance of the swimming pools, the water quality, the maintenance of filters and products used for these purposes.
  7. Complete various forms at the pools.
  8. Undertake any other related duties.

LATITUDE

The work is performed under supervision, following instructions and complete directives that follow techniques known to the holder of the position. The work involves solving problems mainly during emergencies.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

EDUCATION :

  • Possess secondary IV diploma, with appropriate sector and profile, and Bronze Cross from the “Société Royale de Sauvetage”.
  • Possess a valid certificate from "National Lifeguard" course.
  • Possess a certificate for a 12 to 15 hours First Aid course given by a recognized organization.
  • Possess a certificate of Basic Life Support from a recognized organization.

 

EXPERIENCE

No experience required or any combination of education and experience deemed sufficient to complete the job.

 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRE

Good knowledge of:

  • First Aid to provide in case of an accident and cardiopulmonary resuscitation;
  • Regulations in force at swimming pools;
  • Swimming and rescue.

Knowlege of:

  • French;
  • English (for the positions that require it).

Abilities and/or aptitudes:

  • to react rapidly in case of emergency;
  • to maintain order and enforce the existing regulations in the pools;
  • to prepare simple texts;
  • to demonstrate tact and courtesy.
