Assistant City Clerk

The City of Côte Saint-Luc is a dynamic municipality on the island of Montreal with a population of approximately 33 000. The City prides itself on providing the highest level of services to its residents at a reasonable cost.

The City is seeking a dynamic and entrepreneurial individual to join its management team as the Assistant City Clerk. Under the direction of the Director of Legal Service and City Clerk, the Assistant City Clerk will provide high-level legal support, performing a variety of technical functions as well as other related duties as assigned.

 

Key responsibilities

Clerk’s duties:

  • Drafting of the Minutes
  • Translation
  • Elections
  • Assisting and coordinating with the various departments on different legal issues that they are experiencing
  • Possibly collecting additional revenues from damages sustained by our City contractors and/or reducing expenses
  • Assist various departments on questions related to resolutions
  • Access to information requests
  • Keeping insurance characteristics file up-to-date

Reports concerning a claim or collection:

  • Assists employees in properly drafting reports in order to best protect the City’s legal interests focusing on training new employees

Claims:

  • Issues recommendations to the Director of Legal Services and City Clerk to settle or deny a claim; and
  • Ensures that a proper follow-up occurs with City/Contractors’ insurers.

Collections:

  • In charge of convening dynamic and solution-oriented meetings to ensure the damages-collection process is synergistically followed with a goal to create strong inter-departmental collaboration.

  • Excellent problem‐solving, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to multitask and handle stressful situations
  • Ability to communicate and write in both English and French
  • Proficient in office related software

 

Education requirements

  • Law degree from an accredited University
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties as described
  • Experience in a public agency (an asset)
  • Be a member in good standing with the Barreau du Québec

You may be required to pass an exam of competence in language and writing proficiency
