Siren test on Saturday, October 2, 2021

On Saturday, October 2, 2021 from 12:55pm to 1:10pm there will be a siren test of at least three minutes at many factories across the island of Montreal, including the Parmalat (Lactalis Canada) factory on Saint-Jacques St., which is south of Côte Saint-Luc. Since sound waves are influenced by weather conditions, it is possible that people in Côte Saint-Luc (particularly the southern areas) may hear the siren. In the event of an actual emergency at the factory, the siren would warn people who are outdoors that they must seek shelter. Persons who are indoors will be alerted by radio and television.

About the tests

The Agglomeration of Montreal, in collaboration with factories that use hazardous materials, is working to set an effective warning procedure to reduce the risks associated with a major industrial accident. The Centre de sécurité civile of Montréal, in collaboration with participating factories, has prepared a drill to test its warning sirens, the details of which are provided below. Since sound waves are influenced by weather conditions, it is possible that all persons located within hearing range (as indicated on the map below) will actually hear the siren. People who are indoors may not hear the siren, which is normal.

This drill aims to make sure that all sirens are working correctly and assess the state of preparedness of all emergency first responders.
