Statement by City on the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

It is with deep sorrow that the Mayor and City Council of the City of Côte Saint-Luc learned of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The City offers its condolences to the children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren of the Queen.

Most Canadians have never had another head of state. The Queen has been a source of continuity in Canada, the Commonwealth, and the world during her 70 years as Sovereign. The dignity in which she comported herself and the responsibility she demonstrated are a model for us all for all, and for time. We remember well the Queen’s “We will meet again” speech in March 2020 when the world was scared at the start of the pandemic. Her words comforted us all.

Côte Saint-Luc residents who wish to sign a book of condolence can do so this week at the Côte Saint-Luc Public Library (5851 Cavendish Blvd.).

With the ascension of King Charles III the new Sovereign, the City of Côte Saint-Luc wishes His Majesty a long and happy reign.
