New public outdoor AED at Sports Annex

The City of Côte Saint-Luc has installed a new public access defibrillator inside a heated and ventilated protective cabinet at the outdoor Sports Annex at Pierre Elliott Trudeau as part of a broader effort to enhance public safety in community spaces.

The protective cabinet by SaveStation provides power and heat to keep the AED protected from inclement weather year round.

The initiative responds to year-round recreational activity at the site, which sees an influx of residents in the summer for pickleball and in the winter for hockey on the refrigerated outdoor rink.

Côte Saint-Luc already maintains multiple Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in public buildings, including at the Bernard Lang Civic Centre, the Aquatic and Community Centre, and the Samuel Moskovitch Arena. In addition, Côte Saint-Luc Public Security Agents are equipped with AEDs as are Volunteer Citizens on Patrol (vCOP). Côte Saint-Luc Emergency Medical Services (EMS) first responders also use defibrillators.

AEDs are designed to be simple and intuitive to use, even for individuals with no medical training. The device provides clear voice and visual prompts to guide users step by step through the process of responding to a cardiac emergency. Learn how to use an AED in less than 90 seconds

According to data from DEA Québec, there are 18 AEDs on our territory, including 14 in municipal buildings. Côte Saint-Luc is encouraging local businesses and property owners to register their AEDs with the DEA Québec mobile app, which helps emergency responders and bystanders quickly locate the nearest device. To do so, download the “AED – Quebec” app, press the “Register an AED” icon (in the More section) and enter the information about your AED. For buildings that do not yet have a defibrillator, the Jacques-de Champlain Foundation offers an application process for acquiring a free AED.
