The Côte Saint-Luc Local Commerce Committee is pleased to the Ethel and Morty Fruchter Summit Café at the Donald Berman Maimonides Geriatric Centre for the month of April 2025. Having opened its doors in 2022, the café is a partnership between the Donald Berman Maimonides Foundation and Summit School. The Foundation has generously provided the space and equipment, while Summit School maintains the daily operations.
The mission is twofold; provide the students at Summit School with valuable work experience and to provide a space for residents, staff and visitors at the Centre to meet, socialize and enjoy a fresh meal together.
The team includes two Job Integration Specialists, Cathy Perez and Anita Kot, around 15 to 20 student stagiaires each school year, Maimonides longtime volunteer Frank Pascarella, the first student employee Erica Akerman and Josh Cunnigham, Vice Principal and Project Manager.
Perez is the mother of a Summit School graduate and served as the head of the parent committee for 20 years. Kot is a professional chef specializing in pastries with 25 years of experience in the industry.
The café serves a variety of baked goods, hot and cold beverages, sandwiches, soups, pizzas and salads. Stop by the Café at 5795 Caldwell Avenue to pick up a fresh bite to eat and see the students in action! This is located on the first floor of the Centre. The Café services residents, staff, guests and the public. Opening hours are Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm, serving coffee, pastries, soup, sandwiches, pizza and salads.
