This is Mayor Mitchell Brownstein with an update on Covid-19. Like many other areas in the province, Côte Saint Luc now has confirmed cases of the UK variant of coronavirus. Public health authorities say this virus is more contagious and spreads much faster. How can we protect ourselves? Studies show that surgical-style masks are more effective than cloth masks. And there’s evidence that a surgical mask covered by a cloth mask is even better.

So please take all precautions; wear masks properly, wash your hands, physically distance, and get tested as soon as you feel any symptoms. The MUHC hospital at 1001 Décarie is able to test for the new virus variant. It is open every day from 11am to 6pm without appointment.

Health professionals can only do so much. Their battle is to save one life at a time. Our battle is to stop the spread of the virus one person at a time. The unsung heroes are all those who are following the public health guidelines, which reduces the chance they will get infected or infect others. Until we are appropriately vaccinated, let’s all do our part to help protect each other.
