Electrical grid update – Saturday at 1:30pm

This post is archived and may contain outdated information.

As you may have heard, the multi-day power outage that started on Saturday, January 24 was caused by the failure of one of the four large transformers at the Hydro-Québec sub-station.

Hydro-Québec added 13 generators to increase the electrical capacity. A new transformer to replace the failed one has now been installed and Hydro-Québec is ready to switch clients back to the main power supply. To accomplish, it is scheduling a series of planned power outages.

Hydro-Québec has a planned power outage scheduled for the following dates:

  • Sunday, February 1 between 1pm and 6pm affecting 24 addresses
  • Tuesday, February 3 between 8:30am and 4:30pm for more than 1,000 addresses.

Visit the Hydro-Québec Planned Outages page to see the affected addresses.

If you need a place to work

If your address is affected, and if normally work from home and need a place to work, the Côte Saint-Luc Public Library (5851 Cavendish Blvd.) offers spaces that can accommodate different work and study needs, with free Wifi and electrical power available and plugs located at or near desks for charging laptops and other devices.

The library provides bookable study rooms for those who require quieter or more private environments, including acoustic mute boxes for two people, a small study room for up to three people, and a large study room that accommodates up to five people; these rooms can be reserved on the same day by library members with a valid card through the study room booking page.

In addition to these private bookable spaces, the library also has open spaces conducive to collaborative work. These areas are clearly marked as Green Zones, meaning they allow for quiet discussions and group work. If silence is what you are looking for, the library also offers individual study carrels equipped with plugs. For a more informal and open setting, the café space is available as well, allowing people to work casually while having access to food and drinks.

If you need a place to stay warm

In addition to the Côte Saint-Luc Public Library, you can also stay warm at the Aquatic and Community Centre (5794 Parkhaven Ave.).
