Ensuring local and Canadian suppliers benefit from municipal purchases

In response to the significant economic impact of the 25 percent tariffs imposed by the United States on Canadian goods, Mayor Mitchell Brownstein has directed senior management to review all municipal purchases to ensure that Section 12.1(e) of the City’s purchasing policy (By-Law 2497) is fully enacted. The City of Côte Saint-Luc’s purchasing policy prioritizes local businesses, and this directive will ensure the City directs as many purchases as possible to local suppliers, as well as those from across Quebec and Canada.

“At a time when Canadian businesses and workers are facing unfair trade barriers, it is crucial that we stand together,” said Mayor Brownstein. “Our procurement policies already prioritize the local economy, and we will fully leverage these measures to support our businesses and workers. Now, more than ever, we must unite as Canadians to strengthen our economy and show solidarity with those affected by these tariffs.”
