Power failure and extreme cold weather

This post is archived and may contain outdated information.

As of Saturday, January 24 at noon, a power outage is currently affecting several addresses in Côte Saint-Luc. Given the extreme cold temperature of approximately –24°C, this situation presents a serious risk of frozen and burst water pipes.

Côte Saint-Luc has been in direct contact with Hydro-Québec and the utility is working on restoring power as soon as possible. The estimate for restoration of power will be updated through the day. IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED

To reduce the risk of frozen pipes and potential water damage, all residents affected by the outage are strongly advised to take the following precautions immediately:

  • Let cold water run continuously from at least one faucet (a slow, steady stream).
  • Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate around plumbing.
  • Ensure that interior doors remain open to help heat reach colder areas.
  • If you experience complete loss of heat, continue to let water run until power and heating are fully restored.

Failure to follow these precautions may result in frozen or burst pipes, leading to significant property damage once temperatures rise.

Power restoration efforts are ongoing, and updates will be shared as soon as more information becomes available.

Please check on elderly neighbours or anyone who may require assistance during this extreme weather event.

UPDATE AT 3:45pm

Due to the power outage, the Samuel Moskovitch Arena is closed, and the Aquatic and Community Centre is closing at 4pm. The public library will remain open until 9pm.
