City of Côte Saint-Luc Adopts Resolution Supporting a Free Iran and Protecting the Local Diaspora from Foreign Interference

On February 16, 2026, the City Council of Côte Saint-Luc unanimously adopted a resolution entitled “Resolution Supporting a Free Iran and the Protection of the Local Diaspora from Foreign Interference.”

Through this resolution, the City:

  • stands in solidarity with the Iranian people in their pursuit of freedom, dignity, and a society governed by the rule of law rather than Sharia law;
  • stands with those who believe that the atrocities perpetrated by the regime in Iran exceed the criteria established by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for initiating a structural investigation into Crimes Against Humanity;
  • calls upon the Prime Minister and the Government of Canada to aggressively enforce the terrorist listing of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) by seizing assets and expelling agents who pose a threat to community safety;
  • urges the federal government to immediately implement a robust Foreign Agent Registry to prevent hostile foreign regimes from mobilizing in our cities to intimidate the local population;
  • will fly, for one week in front of City Hall, the Lion and Sun flag of Iran, which predates the Islamic Republic.

The resolution was adopted in the presence of members of Montreal’s Persian community, whose attendance underscored the profound personal impact of ongoing events in Iran on families here in Côte Saint-Luc.
