Côte Saint-Luc, May 22, 2025 – The City of Côte Saint-Luc is again participating in the Dandelion Challenge (Défi Pissenlit), an environmental initiative that encourages delaying lawn mowing until summer, in mid-June, to give bees, butterflies, and other pollinators a vital head start.
After the long winter, dandelions are among the very first flowers to bloom—and they serve as one of the most important early sources of nectar and pollen for pollinators. By letting these wildflowers grow a little longer, we’re giving insects that play a crucial role in our food chain and biodiversity the support they need.
Côte Saint-Luc, like many other municipalities, has accepted to participate in the Dandelion Challenge and is encouraging its residents to do the same. That means we won’t be mowing the lawn of some municipal grounds and instead will be installing small lawn signs to help raise awareness.
We encourage residents to join us by holding off on mowing their own lawns until mid-June. To help raise awareness in your neighbourhood, we’ll be happy to provide you with a free lawn sign that shows your support for the Dandelion Challenge.
