City of Côte Saint-Luc Secures Grant to Support Day Camp Access for Low-Income Families

The City of Côte Saint-Luc is pleased to announce that it has signed a new agreement with the City of Montreal under the Alliance pour la solidarité – Fonds québécois d’initiatives sociales (FQIS) program. This partnership secures over $320,000 in funding between 2025 and 2029 to provide low-income families with access to quality recreational programming, including the well-established Singerman Day Camp.

Operating since 2002, Singerman Day Camp has served over 2,000 Côte Saint-Luc families, offering a fun, inclusive environment for children aged 5–12. The camp runs for 7–8 weeks each summer and includes breakfast and extended care options. This funding will ensure that the program, which is operated in partnership with the non-profit Comité Jeunesse NDG (CJNDG), continues to meet the needs of families who might otherwise not afford such opportunities.

Under the new agreement, the City of Côte Saint-Luc will directly receive $80,193 annually from the FQIS grant, which it will allocate to CJNDG to support staffing and operations for both the summer camp and expanded year-round programming at Singerman Park Chalet. These initiatives include Saturday activity programs and a Wednesday cooking class introduced in fall 2024—both already showing strong community participation.

This funding model also reflects a shift towards sustained, annual support rather than seasonal-only initiatives, allowing the City and its partners to better serve families in need throughout the year. In alignment with the broader goals of Quebec’s provincial strategy to combat poverty and social exclusion, the program will be rebranded as Loisirs Singerman Recreation starting in 2025.

“With more than 2,000 families having benefitted from Singerman Day Camp since its inception, and now with an annual grant of over $80,000 secured through 2029, this is more than a renewal—it’s a reinvestment in our community’s future.” — Mitchell Brownstein, Mayor of Côte Saint-Luc

“This is an important step forward in our mission to ensure every child in Côte Saint-Luc has access to enriching and engaging experiences, regardless of their family’s financial situation.” — Andee Shuster, Councillor, City of Côte Saint-Luc

“We’ve seen participation in our new Wednesday cooking class grow by more than 60% since launch, and our Saturday programs regularly host 15 kids each week. These aren’t just numbers—they’re stories of children connecting, learning, and thriving close to home.” — Cornelia Ziga, Director of Recreation
