Statement regarding public safety and the arrest of individuals in Côte Saint-Luc

In the early morning hours of October 2, 2024, Côte Saint-Luc Public Security observed a vehicle with suspicious occupants parked near a synagogue on Mackle Road. The Public Security agent called the police and the vehicle was promptly intercepted by police and the occupants subsequently arrested. Later a suspicious item was found near the synagogue and police are now investigating.

Since the October 7 attacks in Israel and the subsequent shootings, vandalism, and incitement targeting Jewish Montrealers, the City of Côte Saint-Luc wants to reassure the public that it is working in close collaboration with all security agencies in order to protect the public. The City has increased patrols by Public Security agents around community buildings, and we are in direct contact with community officials, Federation CJA security team, and the Montreal police department (SPVM).

Côte Saint-Luc understands the serious concerns of the community because of intolerable levels of incitement and hatred. The City of Côte Saint-Luc’s main priority in the coming days and weeks will be on security.

The public can do its part:

  • If you see something suspicious, or are the victim of intimidation, call 9-1-1 immediately.
  • The 9-1-1 phone service is the only way to get information to police quickly.
  • The police have the resources and expertise to analyze your information, piece it together with other information.
  • The police will share important information with Côte Saint-Luc Public Security.
  • If you have video footage or photos of something suspicious, you can e-mail it to the SPVM Poste de Quartier 9 at [email protected]. But you should call 9-1-1 first.
