Mayor Brownstein calls on Mayor Plante to restore order

In a video message released today, Mayor Mitchell Brownstein of the City of Côte Saint-Luc called on Mayor Valérie Plante of Montreal to give the police her full support so that they restore order.

“The past year’s demonstrations were a test for the Montreal police,” Mayor Brownstein states in the video. “Their current policing strategies aren’t working. Why are provincial and other police forces off the island of Montreal making arrests and shutting down demonstrations when there is chaos in Montreal?”

Mayor Brownstein also signals that Côte Saint-Luc will support efforts to re-instate of the anti-mask by-law, which was struck down in 2016.

“Violent protestors are taking advantage of masks to hide their identity after committing violence,” said Mayor Brownstein. “We need this anti-mask by law reinstated without delay.”

The video message by Mayor Brownstein can be viewed on YouTube and Facebook.
