The City of Côte Saint-Luc stands in solidarity with the people of Vancouver, the Filipino Canadian community, and all those affected by the horrific tragedy that took place yesterday at the Lapu Lapu Day Block Party.
We are deeply saddened to learn of the senseless loss of life and the many injuries caused when a vehicle struck festival-goers who had gathered to celebrate culture, community, and resilience. Our hearts go out to the families and friends of the victims, the survivors, and the broader community. Côte Saint-Luc knows how important cultural celebrations are to building strong communities. An act of violence during such a joyful event is devastating to us all.
We encourage everyone to keep the victims and their families in their thoughts during this difficult time, and to support one another with compassion and kindness. The City will be lowering to half-mast the Côte Saint-Luc flag outside City Hall on Monday.
