The Côte Saint-Luc Tennis Club remains temporarily closed following an analysis of the court surface by a second independent testing firm. We have put the supplier in default and will continue to investigate.
SolAirEau TEST Inc. explains in its conclusion that “if several samples of the same type are taken from the same area (ZPSO), the whole material is considered to be contaminated if the laboratory analysis reveals the presence of asbestos fibers in at least one sample.” It is for that reason that the City cannot simply close one court, but must close all the courts. The City has secured some court times for our members at Town of Hampstead tennis courts. Details will be included in our e-mail to members.
The City has asked the public health authority Santé Montréal, as well as the occupational health and safety agency CNESST to provide guidance on what additional steps the City should take.
The City is fully committed to the health and safety of its employees and tennis court users. This current issue only affects some Har-tru clay courts at the CSL Tennis Club. It does not affect tennis courts at Rembrandt and Caldwell made from asphalt.
