The City of Côte Saint-Luc stands in solidarity with the people of Iran who have taken to the streets to call for free and fair elections, the release of political prisoners, and an end oppressive clerical rule, corruption, and censorship.
Côte Saint-Luc is home to a Persian community, and we are deeply aware of the anxiety felt by residents worried for loved ones in Iran. We also recognize that the Islamist rulers who repress Iranians have also funded terrorist organization and fueled regional instability through their proxies.
We hope for a day when Iranians can pursue their dreams without repression, and when a moderate government can work constructively with all regional partners while respecting its own people.
Finally, in November 2025, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) said it had foiled potentially lethal threats on Canadian soil by the Islamic Republic of Iran directed against people whom they see as enemies. For this reason, we call on the Government of Canada to ensure that in the event the clerical regime is overthrown, members of the regime and its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) will not be given refuge in Canada.
