A permit is required to install or replace a fence and\/or hedges.<\/p>\n\n

Location<\/h3>\n\n

Fences must be located on private property only. They cannot be erected on city land, including the area between the sidewalk and your property line.<\/p>\n\n

Hedges must be at a minimum of 1m (3\u20193\u2033) from the city sidewalk or curb. Fences and hedges must be at least 0.91m (3\u2032) from all fire hydrants.<\/p>\n\n

Height<\/h3>\n\n

The maximum permitted height of a residential fence is 1.82m (6\u2032) (except for fences around swimming pools) and 0.91m (3\u2032) if placed within 4.57m (15\u2032) of the front property line.<\/p>\n\n

On corner lots, the maximum permitted height of a residential fence is the 0.6m (2\u2032) for a distance of 9.14m (30\u2032) from the corner in both directions along the sidewalk or curb. (See illustration below.)<\/p>\n\n

Fences around swimming pools<\/h3>\n\n
