New synthetic ice rink opens for the holidays

The new synthetic ice surface at Rembrandt Park (near Kildare Rd.) will open on Saturday, December 24, 2011 and operate daily from 10 am to 4 pm until Sunday, January 8, 2012 inclusive.

Here is the schedule:

  • 10 am to noon: Skating only,  no sticks or pucks
  • 12 noon to 2 pm: Hockey for children age 13 and younger
  • 2 pm to 4 pm: Hockey for people age 14 and older

During the holiday period, there will be no fees to use the ice as the community is introduced to the new surface.

Synthetic ice is a solid polymer material designed for skating using normal metal-bladed ice skates. Rinks are constructed by interlocking panels. It will be enclosed within the gates of one of the tennis courts at Rembrandt Park.
