The City of Côte Saint-Luc is a dynamic municipality on the island of Montreal with a population of approximately 35 000. The City prides itself on providing the highest level of services to its residents at a reasonable cost. We are currently looking to hire a temporary Library Technician.


The work involves performing technical work required for the purchase, organization, preservation, use and distribution of library resources, as well as the use and maintenance of the City’s library equipment.

Examples of completed tasks:

  • Organizes and maintains vendor files and trade catalogs and communicates their contents to appropriate individuals.
  • Contacts material suppliers, routes orders and approves invoices for payment to the Budget Manager
  • Maintains order and subscription files, notifies suppliers of overdue orders; arranges for correction of pricing and delivery errors.
  • Receives documentation from departments and branches and ensures its integration into the collection and files.
  • Classifies material and reviews periodicals according to instructions received; processes, according to established procedure, additional or replacement copies, sequels, etc.; ensures the operation of the système d’office (automatic receipt of new publications).
  • Identifies authors, prepares identification cards and prepares the descriptive catalog of documents.
  • Performs various technical activities related to the updating of the bibliographic framework of subject headings.
  • Conducts bibliographic research; consolidates literature queries and verifies bibliographic data
  • Selects volumes for binding or repair; groups periodicals for binding
  • Assists users by answering routine inquiries, providing technical information on catalogs, helping to locate simple bibliographic information and to use documentation.
  • Coordinates and supervises the activities of employees assigned to various technical support tasks related to the operations of the City Library and ensures that the work performed meets the objectives.
  • Assigns tasks; selects and oversees the application of work methods and procedures; ensures that deadlines are met; oversees staff training and advises staff on complex or contentious issues
  • Monitors the behaviour of the employees for whom he/she is responsible, informs them of any deviation and, if necessary, refers them to his/her superior.
  • Checks films and other audio-visual materials and recommends their repair or rejection as necessary, researches innovations in audio-visual equipment as required.
  • Lends and borrows materials, books, etc. from other organizations and tracks and follows up on them.
  • Organizes filing system, binders of supplementary materials (brochures, newspaper clippings, articles, etc.) and completes required forms.
  • Writes posters, user guidelines, reports and correspondence; checks user orientation devices; collaborates in library activities
  • Maintains an inventory of materials and equipment used in his/her work unit, ensures their maintenance and prepares order lists as required.
  • Collaborates on reviews, prepares bibliographies, identifies problems with bibliographic descriptions.
  • Organizes, at the request of his/her immediate supervisor, animation activities for the library’s clientele.
  • Uses, as needed, various office automation devices to accomplish certain tasks related to the job, while using the appropriate programming.
  • Performs any other related duties.

Qualifications and education:

  • A specialized college diploma, appropriate sector and profile
  • One year of experience
  • Very good knowledge of English and French
  • Good knowledge of documentation techniques
  • Ability to communicate with the public, write clear and concise reports, be tactful and courteous, and coordinate and supervise the work of employees

Salary and benefits: $26.96/hour

Schedule:  Possibility of being called upon to work evenings and weekends

21 hours/week

Sunday 10:00am – 6:00pm

2 additional days or evenings are to be determined
