Toy Swap at the Eleanor London Côte Saint-Luc Public Library

Côte Saint-Luc, November 27, 2009 – Parents and kids will be able to trade used toys for other ones at the Eleanor London Côte Saint-Luc Public Library at the first Toy Swap on Sunday, December 6.

Individuals are invited to bring in gently-used and well-cleaned children's and toddler's items to be swapped. There are a few exceptions to be noted: no clothes, car seats, cribs or walkers.

The public can drop off toys at 1pm. Toys will be colour coded according to value and donors will receive corresponding coloured tickets.  These tickets can then be exchanged for toys in the same colour category. The toy exchange will take place from 2pm to 4pm. If a person’s toy does not get swapped at the end of the toy swap, those individuals are welcome to take the toy back home with them or give the item to charity.

“This Toy Swap will hopefully be the first of many toy swaps at the library,” said Sarah Topey, Manager of Adult Services. “We are hoping that it will provide parents and their children the opportunity to meet neighbours, interact together, exchange, and have fun.”

Councillor Sam Goldbloom, the council member responsible for library and culture, says the event will help teach children the value of reusing items.

“What better place to learn the valuable lesson of 'waste not, want not' than in the comfort and security of the library?” Councillor Goldbloom said. “I’m proud of the way the library helps foster community spirit in the City of Côte Saint-Luc with events like these.”

This event is free and everyone is welcome.
