Ballroom dancing championship coming to Côte Saint-Luc

Côte Saint-Luc, September 14, 2012 –  For the second consecutive year, the Canadian Amateur Open Dancesport Championships will be at the Côte Saint-Luc Gymnasium (7500 Mackle Rd.) on Saturday, September 29, 2012 from 1 pm to 11 pm. 

The Canadian Amateur Open Dancesport Championships is presented by Danse Sport Québec. It allows ballroom dancers to compete for the title of Canadian Open Amateur Champion.

“This is a fantastic event to watch and there are several Côte Saint-Luc residents to help cheer on,” Councillor Mitchell Brownstein said.

Tickets to this event are $45 for people age 16 and older or $30 for people 15 and younger and can be purchased at or at the door.

Dancers of all ages and from all regions of Canada, the United States, and possibly Europe will perform their best efforts in both Latin and standard styles of dance for judges and spectators. Dancers will be dressed in ball gowns and tailcoats and as they perform the Slow Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot and Quickstep. They will also dance to Latin music including the Cha-Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble and Jive.

Danse Sport Québec has a number of dancers from Côte Saint-Luc. Among those scheduled to dance in the Juvenile and Junior age groups will be Diana Hazipov and Reymend Scheiller, Emily Rivkin and Robert Scheiller, Teona Treskounov and Richard Morozova, and Mathieu Malakhov and Paula Golban. The youth representatives will be Olga Vaksman and Adam Baboutin, while the adult couple Yevgeniya Taftay and Stephan Larose will to provide a high level of competition for their challengers to defend their title of reigning Quebec champions.
