Volunteers of the year 2019

The City of Côte Saint-Luc announced the Volunteers of the Year for 2019 at the annual Volunteer Recognition evening on November 6 2019. Read about the winners and watch the video below.


The Aquatics Volunteer of the Year Award

Michèle Castonguay

Michèle Castonguay

Michèle has shown great dedication to the Côte Saint-Luc competitive swimming program. She has served as our meet manager for all swim meets during the 2018-19 season. Michèle has been instrumental in the success of those events. She has years of experience as an official in the swimming world and has helped elevate the level of for our swimming program.


The Community Special Events Award

Presented to volunteers for exceptional contribution to the community special events programs.

Bryan Wolofsky

Bryan Wolofsky

Bryan has been helping organize of the Peewee National Outdoor Hockey tournament for the past few years. Before the tournament, Bryan works on securing a number of beverage sponsors. During the tournament, Bryan’s unique personality is on display as announcer. He works hard to make the tournament a great experience for everyone.


The Community Special Events Award

Presented to volunteers for exceptional contribution to the community special events programs.

Bernie Green

Bernie Green

Bernie has been the chairman of programming at the Côte Saint-Luc Men’s Club since 2015. He’s the one who finds and books notable speakers, such as Jean Charest, Lenny Lighter and Dick Pound. He’s also responsible for organizing trips.


The Eco Award

In recognition of leadership in the promotion of environmental advocacy and action within the community.

Boyd Hamilton

Boyd Hamilton

Boyd is the coordinator at the Kirwan Park Community Garden. Six years ago, Boyd started a group made up of highly-skilled people with expertise in horticulture. Their mission is to create a full cycle seed library in order to preserving rare and endangered plants. They hold free public seminars to educate fellow gardeners. They also distribute seeds at no charge through the Côte Saint-Luc Public Library.


The Edward J. Kirwan Award

Awarded annually to outstanding volunteers in the Cote Saint-Luc programs for exceptional contribution.

Adriana Rico

Adriana Rico

Adriana is a volunteer at the Côte Saint-Luc Figure Skating Club. As vice president, she organizes the off-ice program, participates in on-ice rental and scheduling, and provides web site support for online registrations. She is also an active figure skater and trains daily.


The EMS Award for Excellence in operations

Scott Hunt

Scott is one of the most involved members at EMS. He has volunteered thousands of hours over many years. He’s always looking for ways to improve the service. He recently took on the position of Lieutenant of logistics and equipment. Scott’s contribution to the EMS is an inspiration to all.


The EMS Award for Excellence in Training

Alizée Znaty

Alizée reviews all calls and reports meticulously, professionally and efficiently. This quality assurance is vital to a pre-hospital care service like EMS. She’s a great medic, open-minded and kind. She is always willing to lend a hand.


The EMS Rookie of the Year Award

Kassandra Pinsonneault

Kassandra’s passion and bubbly personality distinguish her. A nurse by profession, Kassandra is exceptionally motivated and always up for new challenges. She is the kind of person that everyone loves and all want to work with.


Gerry Weinstein Ambassador of the Year

In recognition as the citizen best portraying charitable qualities and serving the community at large.

Marc Ezerzer

Marc Ezerzer

Sponsor for CSL Executive Softball League and CSL Golf Classic Tournament

Marc is a big supporter of Côte Saint-Luc. He plays and sponsors a team in the CSL Executive Softball League and he also sponsors the annual Golf Classic. He is a prominent real estate agent who lends his high profile to the good and welfare of sports programs.

Awarded annually to the outstanding volunteer for exceptional contribution to the community service programme.

Diane Liebling

Diane Liebling

Cats Committee

Diane has been the chairperson of the Côte Saint-Luc Cats Committee for the past six years. She works long hours trapping stray cats, feeding then in her garage, and finding homes and foster homes for them. She has also established a network of feeders for outdoor cats, organizing meetings and making repeated visits to the Côte Saint-Luc Hospital for Animals.


The Royal Canadian Legion Brigadier Frederick Kisch, Branch #97 Award

Awarded to the Youth Volunteer of the Year, in recognition of outstanding achievement in the improvement of leisure opportunities within the community.

Natalia Ayodele

Natalia Ayodele

Children’s Library

Natalia has a volunteer at the Côte Saint-Luc Public Library since 2016. She has helped eight children as a Reading Buddy, and was one of the first teens to adopt the Homework Help program. Natalia is a gifted mentor and a caring person. Natalia has a truly generous spirit, and will undoubtedly go on to help people throughout her life.

Presented to the outstanding Volunteer for exceptional contribution to the social-cultural programmes.

David Gandell

David Gandell

CSL Men’s Club

David has volunteered for many years including serving as membership chairmen, second vice president and currently serves as first vice president. He is responsible for scheduling, executive meetings and managing the directors.

Masters and Youth Swim Team

Joel is has gone above and beyond over the last few years in the pursuit and support of youth and team sports. He has helped in the development and promotion of the Masters and Youth swim teams. He also recruits and trains officials for the team competitions. He also supports the parent volunteers and thanks to his involvement, the number of volunteers has increased.

CSL Dramatic Society

Jeanne played the lead Narrator in the META-award winning Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. She was also the lead the production of Cabaret. She has performed in eight Dramatic Society productions. In 2019, she performed on stage more than 40 times.

Côte Saint-Luc’s Emergency Medical Service Team

In grateful recognition of the wonderful work of the CSL Emergency Medical Services team (EMS volunteers).

This special group of volunteers are responsible for the saving and aiding of thousands of lives each year. Accepting the award of their behalf was Steve Merling.

Andrew Winkler

Minor Hockey

Andrew has been a valuable member of the Càte Saint-Luc Minor Hockey Association Board and its coaching fraternity. This past year he was an assistant coach on two teams and the Head Rules Official on the Board. He is always giving of his free time and is often seen at the arena answering any and all parent inquiries, no matter the subject.


The Stewart Mankofsky Memorial Trophy

Awarded to the Cote Saint-Luc athlete who best exemplifies the qualities of dedication, sportsmanship, and love for competition and fellow participants.

Figure Skating Club

Charlotte has well represented the Figure Skating Club for five years as a part of the Quebec Figure Skating Team. She has a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and a commitment to excellence. She continues to give much prominence to the Côte Saint-Luc Figure Skating Club.


The vCOP Award

For outstanding contribution as a leader in the promotion of community safety.

Susie Berkson-Schwartz

Susie Berkson-Schwartz

When you hear vCOP mentioned in conversations, you almost always hear the name Susie Berkson-Schwartz spoken at the same time. Along with her husband, Harvey, they were among the very first members to join this neighborhood-watch-on-wheels program in 2006. She is in charge of all special events. She works closely with the Public Security Department, coordinating vCOP participation at Canada Day and Winter Carnival. Susie also works on events with the Montreal Police Department, the Côte Saint-Luc Public Library and the Parks & Recreation department.

Steven began coaching in the Côte Saint-Luc minor baseball program 10 years ago. He has a reputation for treating players on his team fairly and with respect. He never loses perspective on why he started coaching. He also ensures that the players have a fun and positive experience.
