The City of Côte Saint-Luc is officially unveiling its new Pickleball Courts at the Sports Annex of Pierre Elliott Trudeau Park (6975 Mackle Rd.) on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at 9:30am.
There are five pickleball courts at the Sports Annex. The facility is open daily from 8am to 10pm until October. Players can reserve a court up to 7 days ahead by calling 514-485-6806 ext. 9204. Cost is $5 per person, per session, or free with the Fun Card. Payment by Interac or credit card is accepted on site. More information available at cotesaintluc.org/places/annex.
Pickleball is a rapidly growing sport that uniquely combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. Players use solid paddles made of wood or composite materials to hit a perforated polymer ball, similar to a whiffle ball, over a net. It’s typically played on a badminton-sized court with specific pickleball rules. The game can be played as singles or doubles and is known for its fast-paced, yet accessible gameplay. While pickleball shares a lot of similarities with tennis and badminton, it differs in terms of service rules and scoring. One of the distinguishing features is the “no-volley zone”, also known as “the kitchen”, preventing players from smashing the ball at close proximity. Its rules are easy to learn which makes it a popular sport for all ages. Pickleball offers an excellent mix of physical activity, strategic play, and social interaction, making it a hit across generations.
The Pickleball courts Côte Saint-Luc were the first in Canada to use PickleRoll, a temporary, semi-permanent surface that was be rolled out in summer and stored in winter—enabling us to use the Sports Annex for Pickleball in summer and ice hockey in winter.
