Motorized personal mobility devices

On July 20, 2023, the Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable launched a three-year pilot project concerning the use of motorized personal mobility devices (MPMD).

What is an MPMD?

Electric standing scooters, seated scooters three-wheel seated scooter and gyroscopic vehicles (hoverboard and electric unicycle) are examples of MPMD.

What does this mean?

  • MPMD are permitted on bike paths and on roads where the speed limit is max 50km/h
  • MPMD cannot exceed speeds of 25km/h
  • Individuals on an MPMD must wear a helmet and must drive in a safe manner.
  • MPMD must comply with the Quebec Highway Safety Code and can be fined when in infraction.
