Please Slow Down lawn signs

The City of Côte Saint-Luc needs your help to make our street feel safer. No matter how many speed humps, bollards, speed trailers, and stop signs we install, the single most important traffic calming device is not something we can install on your street – it is you, the driver.

When you operate your vehicle, you are piloting a 3,000+ pound metal machine. How you drive around kids at play, bicyclists, and pedestrians will affect how safe your people feel in their neighbourhood.

If you pledge to drive safer yourself by filling out the form below, we will deliver a Please Slow Down lawn sign to your home.

You can request a sign at any time of year, but it will only be delivered in the summer.

Protect those who protect you: Respect the Move Over Law

When you see an emergency vehicle approaching in your rear-view mirror with its emergency lights and/or sirens activated, the Highway Safety Code states you must slow down and pull to the right, if it is safe and possible to do so. This will allow the emergency vehicle to pass safely en route to their emergency call. Since 2012 when an emergency or service vehicle is stopped on the side of the road with its emergency lights activated, you must change into another lane in order to create a safety buffer. Also, it is illegal—and quite dangerous—to follow an emergency vehicle that has its emergency lights and/or sirens activated.

Watch a 90-second video that clearly explains how you should move over if an emergency vehicle is stopped.
