City Tenant Tip Line
Some tenants might be hesitant to seek assistance, fearing their landlord could evict them in retaliation. Although the City will keep your complaint confidential if you request it, this could limit our ability to help. For example, if your apartment has a bug infestation but you don’t provide your apartment number, we cannot inspect the issue.
However, if you inform us about a problem in a shared area of the building (such as the fire escape, elevator, or lobby), we can inspect the issue without the landlord knowing who filed the complaint.

Renovation
In case of a renovation, the following article of Côte Saint-Luc By-Law 2593-1 (PDF) applies:
ARTICLE 3
In Chapter 5 entitled “Provisions relating to the permit applications”, under article 5.1.9 entitled “Delivery conditions of building permits”, the following item is added after item 6º:
“7º Prior to the issuance of a permit for major works that require evacuation, written documentation must be provided demonstrating that affected tenants have agreed, in writing, to either temporarily relocate or voluntarily vacate their dwellings during the work. Tenants who have agreed to temporarily relocate must have been presented with a clear expected timeline for their return. The contact information of each affected tenant must be provided.”

Prepare your dwelling
- Empty all cupboards (top and bottom) in the kitchen and bathroom.
- Clean all greasy surfaces (Stove, walls, range hood, cupboards, counter, etc.)
- Empty your garbage cans and your recycling bin as often as possible. These attract food for cockroaches. And throw them away immediately.
Other advice
- Wipe the kitchen counters and the table (or any other place where you eat), after each meal.
- Do not leave dirty dishes lying around.
- Wipe off excess water that may accumulate near the sinks.
- Ventilate the dwelling regularly to reduce humidity.
- Place all food in closed containers
- Do not use insecticides (homemade or in-store)
- Please collaborate with the exterminator.

Waiting period before returning to dwelling
All persons and pets must evacuate the residence during extermination. After extermination, you must wait at least 6 hours before returning home.
This period of time increases to 12 hours for:
- People with respiratory problems
- People with allergies
- Children
This period of time increases to 24 hours for:
- Babies 0 to 12 months of age
- Young children not yet walking
- Pregnant women
