The Aquatic and Community Centre received a suspicious envelope at approximately 1:30pm today, October 26. The City called the Montreal police department (SPVM) who are now investigating. As a precaution, the Recreation Department building, Gymnasium, and the Aquatic and Community Centre will be closing. Parts of Mackle Rd. and Parkhaven Ave. will also be closed temporarily. We will update this post when new information is available.
UPDATE 7pm: Police report that they used a robot to analyze the suspicious envelope and neutralize it. The police will now analyze the debris. We understand the concern this has caused in our city. All the correct steps were taken today, by staff who displayed excellent judgement in calling 9-1-1, to the quick response by our Public Security team and the SPVM, and to the precautions taken to close the building. The police department are here to serve and protect and we encourage you to call 9-1-1 if you see anything suspicious.
