The Quebec government announced this week a month-long lockdown period in order to reduce the spread of Coronavirus. The rules are different from those in the spring. You can find the link to the rules at Quebec.ca at the top the page.

So, what does this mean for municipal services? We will still be collecting your blue bins, brown bins and trash. You can still get your reserved items from the outdoor library pick-up service. All our virtual programming on Zoom will continue as well as our phone broadcast service. Our staff will still be answering your calls and emails. But you won’t be able to visit municipal buildings and offices from January 9 to February 8. So, this means no swimming at the ACC, no skating at the Arena, no visits inside the library, and no visits to city hall.

What about outdoors spaces, like parks and skating rinks? These areas will remain open to the public. But Quebec rules only allow you to be with your household members. So, for instance, if you go skating at an outdoor rink, be sure to keep your distance from other households.

In the coming weeks, we will make available a database of local organizations offering programming and support to the community. The goal is to make it easier for residents to find virtual programming that interests them. The goal is to help keep people connect in a virtual way.

Finally, I know this week has been particularly difficult. Along with the lockdown announcement by the Quebec government, we also saw the images of a mob of conspiracy theorists, white supremacists, and anti-Semites riot through the halls of the United States Capitol Building.  At times like these, we in Côte Saint-Luc need to be united and to be there for each other. We also need to find things that make us happy—like reading a book, or watching our favourite movies, or baking, or going for a long walk, or playing our favorite computer game, or making scrapbooks. Whatever you enjoy doing, find the time to do it. You need to take care of yourself. And if you’re able to, help take care of someone else.
