Test siren on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 from 9 am to 9:10 am

On Wednesday, May 8, 2024, from 9 am to 9:10 am there will be a siren test of at least three minutes at many factories across the island of Montreal at the Parmalat (Lactalis Canada) factory on Saint-Jacques St., which is south of Côte Saint-Luc. Since sound waves are influenced by weather conditions, it is possible that people in Côte Saint-Luc (particularly the southern areas) may hear the siren. In the event of an actual emergency at the factory, the siren would warn people who are outdoors that they must seek shelter. Persons who are indoors will be alerted by radio and television.

Every year, the Centre de sécurité civile, in collaboration with participating factories, coordinates a technical test of this equipment. The purpose of the sirens is to warn people outside the plant to seek shelter quickly. The main purpose of the test is to check that the equipment is working properly and that all emergency responders are ready to take action.

The simulation involves ten factories, and sirens will be heard in areas covering 12 boroughs of the City of Montreal and four related cities in the greater Montreal area. Tests will take place throughout the day at the various factories. Residents in these areas will receive a notice informing them of the tests.
