The STM, the Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough and the City of Côte Saint-Luc are today announcing the opening of a reserved lane on Côte Saint-Luc Rd.
“Côte-Saint-Luc is a major corridor for many residents, particularly those living south of the road in the Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough and those living north of the road in the City of Côte Saint-Luc. We remain committed to improving this route for public transit customers by ensuring more regular and comfortable service. There is no doubt that this new section of the reserved lane will encourage local residents to choose public transit as a convenient way to travel—or to start choosing it much more often. This has been the experience with the improved performance of bus service on Queen-Mary since the implementation of the reserved lane last year,” says Éric Alan Caldwell, Chair of the STM Board of Directors.
“The new reserved lane on Côte-Saint-Luc is an excellent step forward for mobility in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce. I am sure that the improved bus service on Côte-Saint-Luc will encourage more people to choose public transit,” says Gracia Kasoki Katahwa, Mayor of Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce. “I would also like to highlight some positive impacts that the STM shared with us since the implementation of the reserved lane on Queen-Mary last year. The measures taken on this key corridor have reduced travel times by almost 20% and improved punctuality, particularly westbound during the afternoon peak period, by about 35% for lines 51 Édouard-Montpetit and 166 Queen-Mary.”
Mitchell Brownstein, Mayor of Côte Saint-Luc, adds: “With more than 11,500 STM customers travelling on Côte-Saint-Luc, including 4,800 during peak periods, we are thrilled that this new reserved lane will help our local residents get to the métro faster.”
The new reserved lane for buses and taxis will operate in both eastbound and westbound directions on Côte-Saint-Luc. In the eastbound direction, the new bus lane will be open to traffic between Coronation Avenue and Fielding Avenue, Monday through Friday, from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The westbound lane, which will run between Alpine Avenue and Coronation Avenue, will be open from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on weekdays. Due to the configuration of the road, it will not be possible for bikes to share the reserved lane safely, so they will be offered an alternative route on nearby streets.
The new reserved lane will benefit the 4,800 daily riders of bus lines 66 The Boulevard, 103 Monkland and 420 Express Notre-Dame-de-Grâce during peak hours. The new reserved lane will help reduce the variability of travel times, with buses running every three to five minutes.
