EXTRACT FROM THE MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL HELD ON WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 21, 2022 AT 5801 CAVENDISH BOULEVARD, CÔTE SAINT-LUC, AT 6:30 P.M.

MAINTENANCE OF STATUS AS A BODY RECOGNIZED UNDER THE CHARTER OF THE FRENCH LANGUAGE
WHEREAS the notice given December 12, 2022, by the Office Québécois de la Langue Française to the effect that the City would no longer satisfy the condition required by Section 29.1 of the Charter of the French Language (CQLR, c. C-11) (hereinafter “Charter”), i.e., that more than half of the residents of its territory have English as their mother tongue;
WHEREAS according to the demolinguistic data collected in the 2021 Statistics Canada census, 46.0% of the residents of the municipality declared English as their mother tongue;
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 29.2 of the Charter, the recognition obtained by the municipality will be withdrawn, by the sole operation of law, on the expiry of a period of 120 days from receipt of the notice sent by the Office;
WHEREAS such recognition is however maintained if the municipality adopts a resolution to that effect, before this deadline, and notifies the Office without delay;
WHEREAS it is in the best interest of the City to maintain its status as a recognized body;

“THAT the Côte Saint-Luc City Council hereby confirm its intention to maintain the City of Côte Saint-Luc’s status as a body recognized by the Charter of the French Language;
THAT a certified copy of the present resolution shall be transmitted without delay to the Office Québécois de la Langue Française.”
